Carter County Candidates - Brad Brammell Seeks County Judge Executive Seat

Republican Brad Brammell says he has a longtime interest in local government, and hopes to build upon Carter County's current "positive energy" if elected to serve as the next County Judge Executive.

Brammell, 44, is a resident of Leon, where he lives with his wife, Rachel, who works as a teacher at East Carter Middle School; their children, Jack, 17, who is a Junior at East Carter High School, Josh, 15, a Freshman at ECHS, Joel, 13,who is in 7th Grade at ECMS, Blake, 12, who attends Prichard Elementary, and Jenna Cate, 9, also a Prichard pupil, as well as "cats, dogs, goats, sheep, pigs, cows, llamas and donkeys" at the family farm. His father is Kenny Brammell, who teaches Agriculture at ECHS, and his mother, Sheila, retired as a teacher at Prichard Elementary.

He has previously served a term as Magistrate for Carter County's District 1. A member of the ECHS Class of 1996, he served as a teacher for nearly 20 years, working in surrounding counties as a teacher and administrator. He is now self employed as a farmer and Real Estate developer. He earned a degree in agriculture at the University of Kentucky, and another in School Administration at Morehead State University.

"I've always had an interest in local government and feel there's positive energy in Carter County right now. I feel there could still be improvements and I might be able to help with that," Brammell said, adding "Fiscally, the county is in the best shape it has been in a while, but concerns remain. Roads is my top priority."

Brammell said he also wants to find ways to help local families meet their daily needs.

"With the economy and gas prices, a lot of families struggle to buy gas and groceries. So, in the short term I think the county should look at lifting the insurance tax," he said, adding he would also like to look at the county's ambulance service operations.

If elected, Brammell said he definitely has ideas about programs and policies he would like to adopt.

"I would like to prioritize and publish roads that need attention - ditches and tiles. Water is the killer of roads," he said.
