Sen. Robin Webb announces more than $29 million in road plan for Carter County

FRANKFORT Senator Robin Webb, D-Grayson, announced that Carter County will receive $29 million for road improvements earmarked in the state two-year road plan recently passed by the Kentucky General Assembly.

Sen. Webb was successful in helping secure $4 million to reconstruct US-60 from west of Glenwood Hollow Road to east of KY-3269. The projects will include 12 foot lanes, wide paved shoulders, a clear zone, and flatter vertical grades. She was also able to obtain an additional $14 million to address the condition of I-64 from mile marker 154 to 171.

“Many of our local commuters use US-60 and the interstate when traveling to and from work,” Sen. Webb said. “Not to mention the everyday travelers who pass through our area. As weathering and increased traffic have taken their toll on the roadways, these upgrades are certainly needed.”

Funds will also be allocated to the following projects in Carter County during the next two years:

$3.4 million for bridge projects on KY-1 and Gollihue Road

$2.5 million to construct a two lane roadway from KY 3297 to the intersection of US-60 and KY-1 to mitigate congestion along Carol Malone Boulevard

$2 million in transportation funding to improve school safety at East Carter High School and Middle School

$1.4 million to improve US-60 at Olive Hill and extend 1.1 miles to I-64 Exit 161

$90,000 to install guardrails on US-60 and KY-1947

“I am pleased that this road plan will make a lot of needed safety improvements throughout the county,” said Sen. Webb. “Working alongside my colleagues in Frankfort, I have expressed that Carter County is due for some much-needed upgrades in regard to our infrastructure. I’m proud to see this year’s budget meet some of those needs.”

Robin Webb represents the 18th Senate District, which includes Boyd, Carter, Greenup, and Lewis Counties.
