James Delano "J.D." Kiser

James Delano “J.D.” Kiser 81 of Ashland, passed away Sunday, September 22,
2019 at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.J.D. was born January 31, 1938 in Olive Hill, Kentucky to the late George
Bert and Retha Mullins Kiser.

He graduated from Olive Hill High School in 1956 where played basketball and
baseball. He helped guide the Comets to back to back 16th Region
Championships and Sweet Sixteen appearances in 1955 and 1956. His passion
for Comet sports and the game of basketball continued for the rest of his
life.

He received an engineering degree from the University of Kentucky. Upon
graduation he worked as an engineer on many highway projects such as the
I-65 Interstate development through western Ky into TN.

He met his wife Joyce Ann Hartman while working in TN. They married in 1967
and they remained devoted to each other for 50 years until her passing in
2017.

In 1971 he returned home to lead the family business as an agent for the
Standard Oil Company, serving several counties. In 1978 he founded his own
company J.D Kiser, Inc a fuel distribution company based in Ashland.
Through the next 35 years he ran a successful company developing many
business and personal relationships that have lasted a lifetime.

JD was an avid golfer and a fan of UK sports. He was a member of First
Christian Church and the Ashland Elks Lodge #350 BPOE.

He leaves behind his loving son Scott Kiser and his wife Cher of Ashland;
one sister Phyllis Howerton of Louisville; two grandchildren Will Kiser of
Ft. Benning, GA and Molly Kiser of Lexington; along with a host of nieces,
nephews, extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be 12:00 PM Friday, September 27, 2019 at First
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with Dr. Robbie Phillips officiating.
Visitation will be at the church Thursday, from 6-8 and one hour prior to
services on Friday. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Pallbearers will be Will Kiser, JC Williams, Scott Hacker, Todd Woodford,
John Smith and Philip Hedrick. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Artis, Paul
Lewis, Robert Woolery, Bob Craycraft, Richard Capps, Philip Stone, Larry
James and in memoriam of his lifelong friend J.C. Smith.
