Tribute for Noah C. Whisman September 2, 1928 ~ June 15, 2021: Malone Funeral Home

Noah Cegar Whisman, 93 of Grayson went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, June 15, following a long illness.

Noah was born September 2, 1928 in Elliott County, KY, a son of the late Jess and Jency Kegley Whiseman. He was a retired Pipefitter from local #248 Ashland, an Army Veteran and of Christian faith.

Noah was preceded in death by a grandson, Jonathan Mark Whisman, three sisters, Fern Swanigan, Lucille Flannery and Maude Hunter and one brother, Seth Whisman. His survivors include his wife of 72 years, Martha Blackwell Whisman, three sons, Jonathan Whisman of Olive Hill, KY, Victor (Denise) Whisman of Richmond, KY and Willis (Pam) Whisman of Olive Hill, KY, six grandchildren, Shannon (Malayia) Whisman of West Liberty, KY, Amanda (Alvin) Hensley of Greenup, Miranda (Derek Ison) Miles of Grayson, Johnny Whisman of Olive Hill, Leanne Whisman of FL and Evan Whisman of Winchester, KY, ten grandchildren.


Funeral services will be Sunday, 2:00 p.m. at Malone Funeral Home with Bro. Marcus McCleese, minister. Burial will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday, 12 noon until service time. Serving as pallbearers will be, Ben Whisman, Evan Whisman, Cadey Hensley, Johnny Whisman, Alvin Hensley and Shannon Whisman.

Ronnie Keith Withrow February 20, 1951 ~ June 14, 2021: Malone Funeral Home

Ronnie Keith Withrow, 70, of Hitchins, KY passed away on Monday, June 14, 2021 at the Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, KY.

Ronnie was born February 20, 1951 in Grayson, KY a son of the late Amos and Virginia Ruth Deerfield Withrow. He was a boilermaker with local # 105 and was a U.S. Army Veteran.

Ronnie is survived by his wife, Joeann Grizzell Withrow; two sons, Brian Withrow of Westwood, KY and Aaron Withrow of Grayson; one daughter, Amanda Withrow Pennington of Grayson; one sister, Debbie (William) Martin of Flemingsburg, KY; two brothers, Johnny (Gloria) Withrow of Grayson and Mike (Kim) Withrow of Grayson; and two grandchildren, Annistyn Pennington and Aaron Pennington.

The funeral service for Ronnie will be conducted on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the Malone Funeral Home with Willie Martin, officiating. Interment will be in the Bowling Cemetery. The visitation will be held Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the service at the Malone Funeral Home.

Brandon Shane Smith, 31 of Grayson died Sunday at his residence.

Brandon was born September 23, 1989 in Morehead, KY a son of Dianna (Scott Berry) Young of Grayson and the late Oscar Shane Smith. Brandon was a Boilermaker, Local 456.

In addition to his mother, his survivors include, Fiancée, Misty Barker, two sons, Riley Smith and Salem Martin, three daughters, Layla Smith, Jayden Martin and Ciera Martin, one sister, Chelsey (Davey) Kouns, one brother, Conner (Tayla) Smith, paternal grandfather, Oscar (Judy) Smith, maternal grandparents, Thurman (Linda) Young, Jr and Karen Miller Young.


Funeral services will be Friday 1:00 p.m. at Malone Funeral Home with Bro. Bradley Cotten, minister. Burial will be in the East Carter County Memory Gardens. Friends may call Friday 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Malone Funeral Home.

Judy E. Dalton, 74 of Grayson went to be with her Lord on June 12, 2021 at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

Judy was born May 2, 1947 in Grayson, a daughter of the late Amon and Ruby Marshall Justice. She was a member of the Pactolus United Methodist Church, and was the co-owner of Tom’s Landscaping Garden Center.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Justice. Judy is survived by her husband of 41 years, Tom Dalton, two sons, Walter Shawn Limings and Thomas (Patricia) Dalton, Jr., both of Grayson, KY, three daughters, Lisa (Rick Jones) Limings of Grayson, Penny (Matthew) Barber of Catlettsburg and Tammy Dalton of Willard, one sister Bonnie Justice of Grayson, brother, Robert Justice of Grayson, ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.


Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. at Malone Funeral Home with Bro. David Boggs, minister. Burial will be in the Leadingham Cemetery. Leo Maggard, 83 of Grayson went to be with his Lord on Saturday, June 12, 2021 in Kings Daughters Medical Center.

Leo was born September 5, 1937 in Elliott County, KY a son of Walter “Red” and Mattie Porter Maggard. Leo was retired from AK Steel, severed his country honorably in the U.S. Marine Corp. and attended Lakeroad Freewill Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Vanlandingham, a daughter, Eavelyn Fryer, sister, Joanne Cox, brothers, Frank, Jack, Homer and Bobby Gene Maggard. He is survived by a daughter, Evelyn (Derreck) King of Ashland, brother, Jack Maggard of Wurtland, four grandchildren, David Anderson, Tabitha Skaggs, Craig Leo Fryer and Shane Steed, five great-grandchildren, Summer Skaggs, Wynter Skaggs, Nevaeh Fryer, Ethyn Fryer and Mason Newland.

Louise Carter, 82, of Grayson went to be with her Lord on Friday, June 11, 2021 after a brief illness in Kings Daughters Medical Center.

Louise was born July 29, 1938 in Olive Hill, KY a daughter of the late Haskell and Sadie Ramey Griffey. She was preceded in death by her husband Darrell Carter, Sr., a daughter, Beverly Lawson, three brothers, Lou Arlen Griffey, William Griffey and Charles Griffey, five sisters, Elaine Harris, Nina Mae Wilson, Shelby Jean Griffey and Christine James. She is survived by a son, Darrell (Janie) Zane Carter, Jr. of Grayson, three sisters, Jewell Hicks, Eveline Whitman and Donna Bailey all of Olive Hill, KY, one brother, Cecil Edward Griffey of Grayson, KY, five grandchildren, Tony Little, Deanna Sloas, Josh Morgan, Chase Carter and Logan Carter, three great-grandchildren, Hannah Sloas, Caleb Sloas and Gage Harris.

Charles Kenneth Cantrell, 80, of Olive Hill went to be with his Lord Wednesday June 9, 2021 at the VA Medical Center in Huntington.

Charles was born March 21, 1941 in Pikeville, KY a son of the late, Orville and Lula May Cantrell. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded by two sisters, Easter Lilli Taylor and Lessie Garland; and four brothers, Orville Jr. ,Arnold Cantrell, Mack Cantrell and Tice Cantrell.

Charles served his country honorably in the US Army, having served in Germany for many years. Charles was baptized into the Church of Christ. Charles enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing, gardening, working with his honeybees and working on cars. Charles was known as a “jack-of-all-trades”.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Goldie Thacker Cantrell; a son, Preston Charles (Sonya) Cantrell of Olive Hill; a daughter, Kernesa Emmitt of Richmond, KY; three grandchildren, Gloria Rena Cantrell, Faith Ann Cantrell and Savanah Nicole Emmitt; a brother, Willie Eugene Cantrell of Waterford, Ohio; two sisters, Joyce (Walter) McClanahan of Elkhorn City, KY and Shelby Potter of Brakes, VA; and several nieces, nephews and extended family who all mourn his passing.

Linda Lee “Ellie May” Burton Seagraves, 63, of Greenup went to be with her Lord Sunday June 6, 2021 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Linda was born January 20, 1958 in Grayson, KY a daughter of the late, Curtis Franklin, Sr. and Debbie Colley Burton. In addition to her parents Linda was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Wade “Donnie” Burton.


Linda was a CNA for over 25 years; having worked at Carter Nursing and Rehab and Boyd County Nursing. Linda was of the Baptist Faith. Linda was known for her caring and compassionate spirit; willing to help anyone in need. Linda was an avid animal lover.


Linda is survived by her husband, Mikie L. Seagraves; four daughters, Bobbi (Roy) Wilburn-Johnson, Kelley (Frank Beatty) Perry, Mandy (Rich) Evans and Ashley Barava; a son, Michael Anthony Seagraves; seven grandchildren, Bradley Wilburn, Joseph Wilburn, Trever Wilburn, Addie Perry, Jeremiah Perry, Kaylynn Barava and Kiley Barava; two great-grandchildren, Liam Wilburn and Ava Wilburn; a sister, Brenda (Albert) Swanagan of Grayson; four brothers, Frankie (Judy) Burton, Jr. of Hitchins, Jim (Regina Shepherd) Burton of Grayson, Troy Burton of Paris, KY and Bruce (Debbie) Burton of Hitchins; and several nieces, nephews, friends and extended family who all mourn her passing.

Tribute for Theresa Gail Mollette December 14, 1972 ~ June 2, 2021: Malone Funeral Home

Theresa Gail Mollette, of Louisville formerly of Webbville, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 after a sudden illness.

Theresa was born December 14, 1972 in Ashland, KY, a daughter of Daymond Mollette of Webbville and the late Julia Thompson Mollette. She was a dispatcher for Lewis Transport in Louisville for 25 years.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Kathy Ann Mollette. Theresa is survived by a special loved boy in her life Dalton Craig Harper. She was blessed with many special cousins that considered her their baby sister, her co-workers at Lewis Transport and special friends in her life, Rebecca and Curt Ferguson, Rachael Craig Harper and Donna Stewart, she was very blessed and had many, many more family and friends.


Funeral services will be conducted Monday, 11:00 a.m. at Maranatha Bible Church in Webbville with Bro. Jesse Fyffe and Steve Owen, ministers. Burial will be in the Mollette Family Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Maranatha Bible Church and after 9:00 a.m. Monday.

Linda White Brock, 70, of Grayson went to be with her Lord Tuesday June 1, 2021 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Linda was born March 28, 1951 in Grayson a daughter of the late, William Dee and Mary Addie Kelley White.

In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Maggard and Ester Glancy. Linda was a retired bus driver for the Carter County Board of Education for over 30 years.

Linda is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Jerry Allen Brock, Sr.; two sons, Jerry Allen (Tammy) Brock, Jr. and Stephen Keith (Kristy) Brock both of Grayson; seven grandchildren, Amanda, Sonja, Tyler, Brandon, Reilly, Allie and Dwayne; one great-grandson, Zeke; six sisters, Vella Ledney, Diana Archer, Martha White, Doris Glancy, Eloise Swords and Teresa Hobson; three brothers, Charles White, William White and Don White; and a host of friends and extended family who all mourn her passing.

Henry Arvis Riffe, 89, of Grayson, went to be with his Lord on Monday, May 31, 2021 at his son and daughter in-laws residence surrounded by his loving family.

Arvis was born on May 8, 1932 on Crane Creek in Greenup County, Kentucky. He was the son of the late O.D. “Sodie” and Mary Martin Riffe. In addition to his parents, Arvis was preceded in death by two brothers, J.O. Riffe and Reuben Riffe. Arvis was in active member of Pactolus United Methodist Church. Arvis worked as a mechanic at the Ford garage for over 36 years. Arvis was known for his kind spirit and contagious personality.

Arvis is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth “Libby” Claxon Riffe of 69 years; one son, Tom (Marcia) Riffe of Grayson; two daughters, Brenda (Frank) Forrest of Grayson and Karen Elfreich of Evansville, Indiana; five grandchildren, Bethany (Rob) Martin, Sarah (Dustin) Everman, Tim (Sarah) Riffe all of Grayson and Matthew Elfreich and Christian Elfreich of Evansville, Indiana; six great grandchildren, Kerrick Barber of Georgetown, Kaden (Kaitlyn) Barber, Kenzie Barber, Macey Everman, Nolan Riffe all of Grayson and Jayda Martin of Ashland; one great- great grandchild, Kassidy Rae Barber of Grayson; and a host of friends and extended family who all mourn his passing. Pallbearers will be: Kerrick Barber, Kaden Barber, Tim Riffe, Dustin Everman, Matthew Elfreich, Christian Elfreich, Rob Martin and Terry Damron.

Dempsey Elaine O’Brien, 69 of Denton, went to be with her Lord on Monday, May 31, 2021 at her residence following a brief illness.

Dempsey was born May 17, 1952 a daughter of Ida Mullins Teague of Grayson and the late Herbert Thompson, her adoptive parents Riley and Nan Mullins and stepfather, Chuck Teague. She had worked several places, but her pride was being a beautician operating Dempsey’s Beauty Shop. Dempsey attended several churches in the area, Hitchins Freewill Baptist Church, Savage Memorial and Stinson Church of Christ.

Surviving is her husband, Murrie O’Brien of Denton, two sons, Robert Barker of Denton and Rickey (Jennifer) Campbell of Webbville, one daughter, Regina (Marty) McGranahan of Hitchins, two sisters, Teresa (Paul) Sagraves of Grayson and Diane (Vernon) Miller of Denton, one step-son, Junie (Teresa) O’Brien of Grayson, one step-sister, Terri (Steve) Baker of Athens, GA, eight grandchildren, Zach, Dylan, Barren, Lakyn, Kacy, Misty, Trent and Katey, six great-grandchildren, special friends, James and (Oliva) Adams of Grayson.

Joy Lynn Huffman, 58, of Millboro, VA formerly of Grayson went to be with her Lord on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at Kings Daughters Medical Center.

Joy was born June 3, 1962 in Johnstown, PA, a daughter of the late Harvey and Ellen Packer Rice. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, Joy was preceded in death by a son, Michael Huffman.

Her survivors include her husband of 35 years, Keith “K.D.” Huffman, one son, Jason Huffman of Springfield, OH, two sisters, Liz Estepp of Olive Hill and Betty Koons of Upper Sandusky, OH, one brother, Terry Rice of Bucyrus, OH and a granddaughter, Kayden Rice, and many other family members to mourn her passing.

Ricky Satterfield, 60, of Grayson went to be with his Lord Thursday, May 27, 2021 at his residence.

Ricky was born March 27, 1961 in Catlettsburg, KY a son of Don Branham of Catlettsburg and the late Nora Ruth Satterfield Young. In addition to his parents, Ricky was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Grace Michelle Young; a stepfather, Jackie Young; and his uncle and aunt who helped raise him, William “Bill” and Easter Satterfield Owens.


Ricky was a member of Dixie Park Freewill Baptist Church. Ricky was the owner/operator of Rick’s Home Improvement for over 40 years. Rick enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing, and spending time with family and friends.


Including his father Ricky is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Regina Mae Sparks Satterfield, three sons, David Jason Santiago of Grayson, James Nathaniel (Amy) Santiago of Colorado Springs, CO, and Randy Joe (Kayla) Satterfield of Greenup; a daughter, Sonja (Stephen) Smalley of Flemingsburg; eight grandchildren, Logan Smalley, Emma Smalley, Kaylee Whitlock, Sophie Santiago, Cristian Santiago, Ethan Santiago, Jaiden Miles, Ava Satterfield; and a grandson on the way; three brothers, Jack (Sandy) Young of Elliott Co., Mike (Ann) Young of Carter City, and Rex (Beverly) Satterfield of Boyd Co.; three sisters, Donna Tanksley, Nancy Branham, and Lee Ann Branham all of Boyd Co.; and a host of friends and extended family who all mourn his passing.

Tribute for Louise I. Hall April 18, 1954 ~ May 24, 2021: Malone Funeral Home

Louise Isabelle Guyette Hall, 67, of Hitchins, passed away peacefully at her residence Monday, May 24, 2021.

Louise was born April 18, 1954 on MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, FL a daughter of the late Herbert and Lillian Robinson Guyette. In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 41 years in 2013, Howard Wayne Hall.

Louise graduated from Morehead State University with a Master’s Degree in Education and later received her Rank I. After college, Louise worked as a teacher and advocate of special needs children and adults for 26 years with the Carter County School System. After retiring Louise spent her time at Carter’s Auto parts, where she “worked” and socialized.

Louise is survived by a son, Greggory (Melissa) Hall of Denton; a daughter, Geri (Russ) Salmons of Hitchins; four grandchildren, Haley Janai (Kody) Salmons of Hitchins, Kyle (Morgan) Spillman of Canonsburg, Blake (Carrie) Spillman of Hitchins, and Zach Tussey of Denton; great-grandchildren, Parker Reid Spillman and a little lady to be, Harper Spillman; special nephew, Jeffrey William Hall of Summit; two sisters, Linda (Rick) McDowell of Ashland and Lisa (P.J.) Gipson of Kenansville, FL; and many honorary kids and grandchildren who all mourn her passing.

Mike was born August 22, 1961 in Grayson a son of Mary Ann Fryer Griffith of Grayson and the late Billy Joe “Tom” Griffith. He was a retired boilermaker with local #105 of Piketon.

Mike was preceded in death by a brother, Tracy Griffith. In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Kisha (Josh) Bush of Grayson and Christie (Sabastian) Joy of Russell, KY; two sisters, Pam (Tim) Wilburn and Regina Griffith both of Grayson; one brother, Bill (Rhonda) Griffith of Grayson and three grandchildren, Trace Brown, Halle Bush, and Layla Bush; and a special little buddy, Rylan Eldridge.

The funeral service for Mike will be held Friday, May 21, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the Malone Funeral Home with Keith Hill, officiating. Interment will be in the Lindsay-Pactolus Cemetery.

The visitation will be held Friday, May 21st from 11 a.m. until the service at the Malone Funeral Home. Serving as pall bearers will be Carty Carter, Greg Reeves, Josh Bush, Derrick Fleming, Edman Hicks and Heath Horton. Honorary pall bearers will be John Sexton and Braden Keaton.

She is survived by a daughter, Myrah Riffe of Grayson, two sisters, Carey Midkiff of Rush and Crystal Gollihue of Hitchins, brother, Andrew Midkiff of Grayson, Paternal grandmother, Paula Midkiff of Grayson, two nephews, Zack Sargent and Trey Fritz.


Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, 11:00 a.m. at Malone Funeral Home with Joed Rice, minister. Burial at Cribbs Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and after 9:00 a.m. Thursday.

Tribute for Harold Chester Burke February 2, 1960 ~ May 14, 2021: Malone Funeral Home

Harold Chester Burke, 61, of Grayson went to be with his Lord Friday May 14, 2021 at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

Harold was born February 2, 1960 in Carter Co., KY a son of the late Chester and Linda Holbrook Burke.

In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his beloved wife in 2020, Sharon Kay Wagoner Burke; and a sister, Dorothy Vannatter in 2016.

Harold was known for his strong work ethic, having been the plant manager at the Highland Company, working there for over 30 years. Harold loved spending time with his grandchildren. Harold enjoyed going to car shows and watching westerns.

Harold is survived by a son, Dwayne Burke; three grandchildren, Kasey Burke, Austin Smith and Derick Smith; a daughter in-law, Stacy Burke; three sisters, Brenda Gumm, Betty (Tony) Sherman and Jeanie (Jason Stewart) Burke all of Grayson; a special friend, Tish Elliott of Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who all mourn his passing.

Tribute for John Frederick Scott July 29, 1935 ~ May 13, 2021: Malone Funeral Home

John Frederick Scott, 85 of Paris, KY formerly of Grayson, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at Cambridge Place in Lexington, following a brief illness.

John was born in Ashland, KY, a son of the late Elmer Wilson and Harriet Riggs Scott. John was a horse trainer his whole life belonging to, United Professional Horseman’s Association and American Saddle Horse Association, also he was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of Grayson Jaycees.

John is survived by his daughter, Teresa (Randy) Lynn Stanley of Grayson, a son, Greg Scott of Paris, KY, sister, Debra Sue Napky, Richmond, VA, a brother, William David Scott of Algeciras, Spain, two granddaughters, Julianne Sanders and Abigail Stanley, two great-granddaughters, Julian Sanders and Randi Lynn Sanders, and his significant other, Beth Miller of Paris, KY.


Memorial services will be conducted Monday, 1:00 p.m. at Bagby Memorial United Methodist Church with Scott Hoeksema, minister.

Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time Monday. Family ask instead of flowers that contributions be given to, Bagby Memorial United Methodist Dinner Church, 201 Hord Street, Grayson, KY 41143.

Wayne Eugene Jackson, 67, of Grayson went to be with his Lord Tuesday May 11, 2021 at the Wurtland Nursing and Rehab Center.

Wayne was born January 12, 1954 in Richmond, VA a daughter of Ruie (Deb Holbrook) Jane Mullins Jackson and the late Calvin Jackson. Wayne was a 1972 graduate of East Carter High School. Wayne worked at many grocery stores in and around Grayson. Wayne was known for his contagious personality and was loved by everyone he knew. Wayne was a music enthusiast, having sang in a boys’ choir at church, and playing drums.

In addition to his mother, Wayne is survived by a son, Jason Jackson of Grayson; a daughter, Jennifer Jackson; a son in-law, Bobby Rice both of Rush; a granddaughter, Abigail Rice; a sister, Joyce Gale (Rock) Schwichtenberg; and a host of extended family and friends who all mourn his passing.

Funeral services will be 2 pm Monday May 17, 2021 at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Bro. Billy Sammons officiating. Burial will follow in the East Carter County Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 11 am Monday until the service hour.
