Glenna Faye Parsons Holbrook September 13, 1958 - November 11, 2020: Globe Funeral Chapel

Mrs. Glenna Faye Parsons Holbrook, age 62, of Olive Hill, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday morning, November 11, 2020, at St. Claire Healthcare in Morehead, Kentucky.

She was born September 13, 1958, in Rowan County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Harold Glendal Parsons and Shirley Faye Webb Parsons.

Glenna was of the Christian faith and she enjoyed yard selling with her husband, watching Days of Our Lives and spending time with her family and her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Danny Holbrook; one son and daughter-in-law, Danny Joseph Holbrook and Angie of Olive Hill, Kentucky; one daughter and son-in-law, Lori Faye Wright and John of Morehead, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Danni Alyssa Holbrook, Maci Jo Holbrook, Eli Ransome Wright and Aubrey Grace Wright; and one brother, Gary Thomas Parsons of Jeffersonville, Kentucky. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 14, 2020, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Kentucky, with Brother Terry Frerichs and Brother Bobby Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Holbrook-Clay Cemetery in Olive Hill, Kentucky.

Friends may visit from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, November 14, 2020, at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West Highway US 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky 41164.

Danny Joe Holbrook, Danny Holbrook, Josh Parsons, Corey Frerichs, Sammy Lee Maddix and Todd Minor will serve as pallbearers. Eli Wright will serve as a honorary pallbearer.To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Glenna Faye Parsons Holbrook, please visit our Tribute Store.

First Annual KCU Veterans Day 5K Run/3K Walk: By MICHELLE BRAND

The first annual KCU Veterans Day 5K Run/3K Walk was held at 4:30pm Wednesday November 11, 2020.  The event was planned by Donald Damron, VPSS and was open to KCU faculty, staff and students.

Twelve people ran the racecourse that included city streets, campus sidewalks and the KCU Knight’s Stadium. Cold damp weather, slippery leaves and streets made for  challenging conditions but all the runners rallied and finished the race.

Soccer coaches and the KCU Cross Country team helped with the event. Professor Dr. Dean Brand, a National Guards veteran, who ran in the race was recognized and thanked for his service. A prayer was offered at the end of the event, and all runners will receive a t-shirt.

Damron was pleased with the turn-out and announced the race would be an annual event to honor and thank our veterans, military and service members.

New Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship campaign encourages adults to go to college: by TAYLOR ALEXANDER

ASHLAND, Ky. – Never Underestimate You!  That’s the mantra behind a new campaign for the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship, an effort to boost education and employability among adults.  

The scholarship, which Ashland Community and Technical College began offering in 2017, offers up to 60 hours of free tuition for anyone who has not yet earned an associate degree. It covers a wide variety of technical programs in health care, manufacturing, business/IT, construction/skilled trades and transportation/logistics. Over 350 courses are currently available.   

Funded by the Kentucky Lottery, courses are available through Ashland Community and Technical College and the other 15 colleges of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS), Campbellsville University, Eastern Kentucky University, Galen College of Nursing, MedQuest College, Northern Kentucky University, Sullivan University, University of Kentucky and Western Kentucky University. 

“The new Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship campaign takes an innovative approach to reaching those in our community who want to attend college to help create better opportunities for themselves, who may not have been able to financially afford it” said ACTC President Dr. Larry Ferguson.  

The new campaign features a hotline number (833-711-WRKS) that adults can call to receive assistance from college advisors on how to enroll in the program.  Other components include special events, paid media and a Work Ready website.  

Hip-hop artist Buffalo “B.” Stille of the Nappy Roots is the campaign spokesperson and created a rap about the scholarship that is featured in all the advertising.   

Stille, a Grammy and American Music Awards nominee, recently earned his bachelor’s degree and champions education as the key to a better life. His rap urges Kentuckians to “Never underestimate you!” He is a Louisville resident and Kentucky native. 

“I believe that education is the one thing that nobody can take away from you,’ said Stille. “The Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship program is amazing because it offers a lot of different skills sets and is tuition free.  If I can go back to school anybody can do it.” 

The Work Ready campaign is a partnership between KCTCS, the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, the Kentucky Lottery, Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority, Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet, The Graduate Network, Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, Kentucky Association of Manufacturers, Prichard Committee and AARP.  It is also supported and partially funded by the Lumina Foundation.

Obituary for Phillip Wade Bradley February 27, 1940 - November 9, 2020: Globe Funeral Chapel

Mr. Phillip Wade Bradley, age 80, of Olive Hill, Kentucky, passed away Monday afternoon, November 9, 2020, at St. Claire Healthcare in Morehead, Kentucky.

He was born February 27, 1940, in Carter County, Kentucky, a son of the late Ora and Ethel Rice Bradley.

Phillip was of the Church of God faith and retired from Kentucky Electric Steel Mill. He enjoyed going to church, fishing, telling jokes and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, John Landon Bradley, Vernon Bradley, and Clyde Bradley, and three sisters, Audra Fultz, Gladys Arnett and Velma Tackett.

Phillip is survived by his wife of 59 years, Catherine Porter Bradley; one son, Phillip Wayne Bradley of Olive Hill, Kentucky; seven daughters, Marcia Zuppo of Girard, Ohio, Mary Greenhill, Glenna Jent, Lisa Wagoner, Rachel Bradley, and Sue Stevens, all of Olive Hill, Kentucky, and Patty Kilgore of Emerson, Kentucky; 22 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

A private graveside service will be held at the Bradley Cemetery with Brother Bobby Day officiating.

Phillip’s family will serve as pallbearers.
