Grayson: Gallery Kids Corner Lessons Inspire Young Artists

Working at socially-distanced stations inside Grayson Gallery & Art Center, a small group of young artists have been learning about different paints and mediums under the supervision of Artist/Instructor Valerie Everman.

Recent projects were geared toward the Grayson Gallery’s annual Halloween Art Show, during a socially-distance version of the monthly F!nal Fr!day Artwalk. Guests used stickers to vote for their favorite young artist’s work.

Students and instructor alike wear masks and practice other health precautions during the weekly lessons.

Halloween Art Show: Grayson Gallery & Art Center (photo gallery two)

Music for the Halloween Art Show 2020 was provided by “The Goodfellas” – a performing trio made up of Elijah Miller on guitar and vocals, saxophonist Trent Litteral and bassist Christian Mullins, without their drummer, Aaron Stephens. The band offered up an entertaining combination of jazz and blues for a small audience of masked music lovers.

"Another First" for Grayson Gallery & Art Center

It’s another first for the Grayson Gallery.  THANK YOU!

The Grayson Gallery & Art Center, Inc. had artists submit artwork in real time for the organization’s first video-opening presentation and its “Summer’s End” Art Show & Sale.  Regional artists participated by bringing work to the GGAC and their art will be on display virtually on Facebook (Dan Click’s personal page in addition to the formal Grayson Gallery & Art Center, Inc. page).

Planned for a short online release after 6:00 pm on September 25 for the monthly Final Friday showcase, the gallery will remain closed to the public due to COVID-19 restrictions. Gallery Director Dan Click will be presenting all of the pieces in the exhibit via a video recording, along with personal comments about selected works, artist highlights, use of various media, subjects chosen and will include September’s award winners as well.

Art will also be photographed and available for viewing through October in an Album on these Facebook pages. The GGAC Board Choice and the Brandon Click Memorial Award, each at $50.00, have been selected and will be announced during the presentation. Award checks will be mailed to the winning artists.

Coming up will be a special event, hosted by the Grayson Rotary Club, on September 26 for their first drive-through “Pancake Breakfast-To-Go” from 8:00 am to noon in the gallery parking lot, for pick up only, at 301 East Third Street in Grayson.  Meals, including pancakes, butter & syrup, bacon & sausage are $6.00 each (KCU students cost will be $5.00 with ID) and the fundraiser is being sponsored by Kentucky Christian College.

The gallery will soon be making the formal announcement of the recent Kentucky Foundation for Women’s “Art Meets Activism” grant, a community project involving the GGAC and Karen Combs, President of the Huntington Blues Society (as lead musician/artist and historian) for a program about the history of Appalachian women in music, their influence on various genres and instrumentation workshops.

Next, plans are underway to be open to the public – following all COVID-19 guidelines – for the GGAC’s annual Halloween Art Show & Masquerade to be held on Friday, October 30 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  Contact director Dan Click for information by email: graysongallery@gmail.com
