The Grayson Gallery will host its first live event of 2021 with the annual “Peace & Love” Art Show & Sale.
Set for 6:00pm to 9:00pm for the monthly F!nal Fr!day festivities, original artwork submitted this month as well as special pieces selected to showcase the GGAC’s Artist Market will be on display.
In addition, the art classes and workshop space led by gallery Arts Educator Valerie Everman, will have recent students’ work on exhibit.
All current guidelines for gatherings and social distancing will be strictly followed. An Awards & Announcements ceremony will take place at approximately 7:30pm, during which three $50.00 cash awards will be presented as follows: the Brandon Click Memorial Award, the GGAC Board Choice and the ever-favorite Peoples’ Choice award; tallied by visitors’ votes for their own favorite piece.
There will also be important announcements about funding and arts-related programs and projects, including the upcoming crowdfunding campaign via “The Local Crowd” (TLC) in partnership with Mountain Association which will give donors who are interested in the GGAC’s mission an opportunity to donate towards certain goals. Railroad buffs will be delighted to see the Grayson Railroad Depot Model on display during the evening. Created by Thomas Gemeinhart, Professor Emeritus of Kentucky Christian College. Along with the model of the depot, other Items include vintage newspaper articles, actual tools and pieces of the structure as well as facts & information booklets about the importance of the railroad in early Grayson history. On loan from local historians Frances and Pam Nash, it’s said that the space now occupied by the Grayson Gallery was once part of the Eastern Kentucky Railroad property.
Live music will be by a newly-formed band “Blue Sky“, featuring members Mike Allen, Tom Berry, Corbin Fitzpatrick and Brent Jack, all of whom have many years of experience as musicians performing across the region.
A food truck, provided by “The Drive In” of Olive Hill, KY will be on-site selling their famous ‘burgers, hot dogs and more; refreshments are unable to be provided by the gallery at this time. Other local restaurants in Grayson will be open and available for dining and drinks as well.
Coming up will be the annual “Women in the Arts” event in honor of Women’s History Month and is set for an opening reception on March 26. The Kentucky Foundation for Women’s (kfw.org) “Art Meets Activism grant-award for the GGAC has been set in motion and Lead Artist Karen Combs of the Appalachian Ladies Revue will be scheduling dates for “Women in Appalachian Music the past 100 Years”, Workshops on music history, songwriting, instrumentation and more will be held and these will be focused on women and girls and offered free to participants.
