Tribute for Walter Ray Sammons, Sr. December 2, 1932 ~ December 18, 2020: Malone Funeral Home

Walter Ray Sammons, Sr., 88 of Grayson went to be with his Lord on Friday, December 18, 2020 at his residence.

Walter was born December 2, 1932, in Carter County, KY, a son of the late Dewey and Florence Hay Sammons. He retired from AK Steel after 38 years’ service, known to his co- workers as “Fiddle Sam”. He was a member of Fellowship Christian Baptist Church, serving as treasurer for over 55 years. Walter served his country in the US Army. He lived by the creed “We serve God by serving others”.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by, seven brothers, Elmer Sammons, Delmar Sammons, Bradley Sammons, Denzil Ross, Virgil Ross, Clyde Ross and Russell Ross; four sisters, Cathleen Boggs, Margie Bellew, Betty Jane Polodak and Edna Mae Bailey. Walters survivors include his wife of 66 years, Charlene Rogers Sammons; two sons, Walter (Jennie) Sammons, Jr. and Roger Keith (Lisa) Sammons both of Grayson; one daughter, Beverly Carol (Bryan) Whitt of Grayson; two sisters, Madgie Mills of Grayson and Freda Bellamy of Bridgeville PA; seven grandchildren, Kisha (Larry) Tussey, Jennifer (Chris) Guyton, Jessica Sammons, Marcy (Taelor) Puckett, Brady Sammons, Chris Whitt and Shaun (Heather) Whitt; five grandchildren, Alex, Stephany, Averie, Seth and Harper.


Services will be Tuesday, 1:00 p.m. at Malone Funeral Home with Bryan Whitt, Shaun Whitt and Tony Sammons, ministers. Burial will be in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East. Friends may call Tuesday 11:00 a.m. until service.
