There was an elevated level of nostalgia for Bubba Johnson during Saturday's annual homecoming parade in Olive Hill as he watched his race-driver son crawl along Tom T. Hall Boulevard in a vintage pickup truck.
"I've owned that truck for 23 years. My mother worked three jobs to provide for me and my sister. And she bought that truck for me."
"It was a very emotional moment seeing my son drive it for the first time yesterday." Bubba said. "I had sent it to a local shop a few weeks ago and had it all checked out and everything fixed on it, the truck has been sitting in my shop for 7 years now. "Anyway I handed him the keys yesterday and said 'Gunner. I've had this truck longer than I've had you, take good care of it because it's yours now.'"
