Funtoberfest 2019- Planning meeting 7/10

The 2019 Funtoberfest planning committee held its first meeting of the year Wednesday, formalizing details for this year’s celebration in Grayson.

The meeting was chaired by Mindy Woods-Click, with members of Grayson Rotary Club, Grayson Fire Department, and Grayson Tourism and Convention Commission  participating. An overview of last years festivities were given and the group discussed what to include for 2019. A conversation was had about a “Taste of Grayson” contest in addition to, or in place of, the traditional chili cook off. Such a competition would allow local restaurants to bring their best food items for locals to sample. A contest may be in the works for this as well.

In addition to the chili cook off and a possible “Taste of Grayson”, the fire department plans on having a Friday night movie, similar to last year’s. There would still be a craft fair, and possible addition of vendors from different backgrounds as well.

Plans to continue for the art show at Grayson Gallery & Art Center. Pumpkin decorating, a pet costume contest, a children’s costume contest, and a pet and children’s parade are in the works.

One large change that may come is the absence of the walking trail to this year’s event. This would include possibly moving some of those events to Park Street with the other featured attractions.

The last item of discussion was a logo for the event. Last year’s logo was graciously donated, but this year, the Rotary Club plans on having a contest for the logo. Specific details will be worked out for this contest, but there will be prize money for the winner of the contest.

The next meeting will be held at the Grayson Tourism Cabin on July 24th at 5:30 p.m.
