Health Needs Assessment Shows Substance Abuse Disorder, Cancer, Obesity Among Most Pressing Concerns

Substance abuse disorder, cancer, obesity, poverty and mental health are the most pressing health concerns in the Tri-State region according to the 2019 Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA). Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital (OLBH) published the assessment on its website (BonSecours.com) after completing the report with community partners and the input of area residents to identify the region’s most pressing issues affecting health.

OLBH Cardiac and Pulmonary Fair Aug. 24

Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital (OLBH) will host the OLBH Cardiac and Pulmonary Fair Saturday, Aug. 24. The free event will take place from 8 a.m. until noon at the Human Motion Vitality Center on the hospital campus.

The OLBH Cardiac and Pulmonary Fair will include health screenings, informational booths and educational sessions featuring question and answer sessions with OLBH physicians. Free health screenings will include checks of cholesterol, blood pressure, glucose and the availability of EKGs to test the heart’s electrical activity to detect any issues. Informational booths will feature the topics of COPD, pneumonia, and heart disease.

OLBH physicians will be present throughout the fair, with the specialists providing educational sessions that include the opportunity for attendees to ask questions. The session schedule is:

• Cardiologist Michele Friday, M.D., 8:30 a.m. – 9:15 a.m.

• Cardiologist Charles Rhodes, M.D., 9:30 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.

• Pulmonologist Michael Ehrie, M.D., 10:30 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.

Following the physician presentations, a healthy cooking demonstration will take place beginning at 11:30 a.m. Snacks will be available at the fair and attendees are eligible to win door prizes. RSVPs are not required to attend.
