The Grayson Gallery & Art Center will present the ninth annual "Women in the Arts" event with a free opening reception on March 25 during the monthly F!nal Fr!days Art Walk in Grayson, KY.
Open from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, this much-anticipated celebration of Women's History Month promises to be one of the largest shows in this series to date. Over 30 regional artists will be exhibiting nearly 90 original pieces in a variety of mediums and subjects; most are for sale and many artists also offer commissioned pieces.
Plans for the evening, which will include refreshments by Sheila Marie as well as Henna Tattoos & Body Art by Maranda Knipp (a small fee per tattoo) there will be an exciting departure from past female-focused events at the gallery. This year the program will include a showing of "Women in the Arts", a documentary by videographer/filmmaker Bobby Lee Messer which showcases the GGAC's celebration and support of female artists of all genres.
Part of a Kentucky Foundation for Women's "Art Meets Activism" funding award that the Grayson Gallery received in 2021, the complete project was organized by Lead Artist Karen Combs. In addition, a CD compilation of music by the female musicians represented was produced by David Justice of Appalachia Recording & Sound; copies will be available by pre-orders for $5.00 each).
Live music by 5$ Red will kick off the evening at approximately 6:00 pm. Starting at 7:00, announcements, awards and an introduction of the history of this short film (which has been nominated and selected as one of the top three candidates for the "Film, Short Film and Documentary" category at the Appalachian Arts & Entertainment Awards set for April 9, 2022 at the Mountain Arts Center in Prestonsburg, KY. The screening will begin at around 8:00pm.
The band "Unmanned" takes the stage soon after the film and the festivities will continue until 9:00 pm.
