Roads Snowy, Slick as Plow Crews Continue Fighting Snowfall in Northeast Kentucky

Avoid travel if possible, or adjust plans

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (7 AM, Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021) – State highways are snowy and slick this morning as salt truck and snow plow crews continue working in the wake of a winter storm.

As of 7 a.m., road conditions were reported as partly to mostly covered with snow in northeast Kentucky – especially secondary roads. Some main roads, such as I-64, range between clear with wet travel lanes to scattered snowy conditions. Air and pavement temperatures average 26-30 degrees. Some snowfall is still occurring.

Motorists should avoid travel if possible. If not, please slow down, buckle up, leave space between vehicles, take your time, and give plow crews room to work.

Plow crews will remain on roads in Bath, Boyd, Carter, Elliott, Fleming, Greenup, Lewis, Mason, Nicholas, and Rowan counties throughout the day, treating them with salt and plowing snow as needed. While crews will work to get roads in the best possible condition, roads likely will not be clear until after snowfall stops.

During winter storm operations, Kentucky Department of Highways District 9 uses more than 75 snow plows and other equipment to keep 2,000 miles of northeast Kentucky state highways passable.
