Watch for traffic changes for final construction
FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Oct. 1, 2020) – With the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s $900,000 bridge replacement on KY 1 at Lost Creek in Greenup County nearly complete, motorists should watch for traffic changes as crews finalize construction.
Contractors expect to remove temporary traffic signals and restore KY 1 to two-way traffic Friday afternoon. Width restrictions will also be lifted. However, final work on the roadway approach to the bridge, including guardrail installation, will continue through early next week. Motorists should expect intermittent one-lane flagged traffic for several days beginning Monday, Oct. 5.
The rebuilt bridge on KY 1 over Lost Creek just south of the KY 784 intersection (milepoint 1.1) features new support beams, a new concrete surface deck, and other components that will improve the quality and lifespan of the structure.
Frederick and May Construction Company began work in August under a $927,412.60 low-bid Transportation Cabinet contract through the Bridging Kentucky program.
The Bridging Kentucky program is a commitment to improving safety and soundness of the Commonwealth’s bridges by rehabilitating, repairing, or replacing critical bridges throughout the state. The program is designed to open closed structures, improve bridge lifespans, ensure appropriate weight capacities are met, and improve access and mobility for all Kentuckians.
