Carter County Schools Returning To Virtual Classes As Of Tomorrow

Carter County school officials have announced a return to virtual/NTI education effective October 27, 2020.

School officials released the following statements via social media:

“This afternoon the Carter County Health Department recommended that Carter County Schools return to virtual/NTI education for ALL students and cancel extracurricular activities.

Effective tomorrow, October 27, 2020, Carter County public schools will return to virtual classes. Co-curricular and extra-curricular events scheduled in Carter County are cancelled.

At this time, to our knowledge, there are no positive students and 1 positive employee that is isolated at home. However, because of the number of cases in the county, the Health Department has made this recommendation.

We apologize for the short notice but have only received the information this afternoon. Virtual learning will continue through this week.

There is no school scheduled on Monday, November 2 and Tuesday, November 3. Unless otherwise advised, in-person learning will resume on Wednesday, November 4.

“We are aware of a post that was made by the Carter County Health Department regarding an earlier recommendation to close school.

“While we maintain daily conversations with health department officials, today is the first time that the recommendation to suspend in-school classes was made.

“We have been advised over the past couple of weeks to be prepared for such a recommendation, but it was not made until this afternoon.

We appreciate the health department and the enormous task that they have in keeping our community safe.”
