The old Carter County Jail, located behind the former courthouse which still serves houses county offices including the health department, has been mostly used for storage in recent years and also contains lots of props leftover from the “Haunted Jail” event which was held there for several years.
County officials are considering what to do with the building, which was built by WPA workers during the Great Depression.
