Several other people stopped their vehicles and hand delivered bottled water to Garrett, which he said people had been doing since he first hit the street with a backpack and a large wooden cross bearing several messages.
White, who now leads a ministry known as "Street Called Straight," spoke with Garrett for several minutes and the men embraced as they prayed in the shade beside Grayson Gallery & Art Center.
Sunday's peaceful protest is scheduled to begin at noon in the empty lot on the corner of Main Street and Carol Malone Boulevard.
