The Running Wife Delivers For Carter County

From fresh bread and eggs to toilet paper and taco kits, members of The Running Wife group ran bags and boxes of top-quality groceries and goods to Carter County families Thursday (April 10, 2020).

"Today was spectacular! We provided $4,000 worth of food and essential items to Carter County families!!! Thank you for supporting so many families in Kentucky!" group founder Ashleigh Freda said, adding The Running Wife team planned to spend the next day, Good Friday, delivering food to Woodford and Fayette County families.

While The Running Wife included a focus on organized races and events, members including Carter County residents, are currently encouraging runners of all levels to participate in a coordinated "Taco Night" on Cinco de Mayo.

"Please consider registering for our Will Run 4 Tacos virtual race! All of the proceeds are going straight to the table of families in need. Because every family deserves a taco night!" #teamkentucky #therunningwifeclub.

"We will come back to the west side (of Carter County) in about two weeks with another load as big if we can get runners to register, Freda said, noting virtual runners "Must register by 4/20 to guarantee shirt for May 5th- Cinco De Mayo!!!"

The theme of a Taco Night run seemed a fun way for The Running Wife team to support communities statewide.

"We do taco night a lot at our house," she said, later adding "taco kits" are an affordable option to provide, and will generally feed a family of four.  The "virtual race" with participants running four mile routes of their own choosing, will generate funds for meat, cheese and other taco ingredients.

Participants can register for the virtual race at therunningwife.com. Registration must be complete by April 20 to receive the official T-shirt, Freda said.

The Running Wife operates by memberships, currently set at $100 per year, Freda said. Much of the group's past focus was on coordinated group races and running events, which have all been cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns. In the meanwhile, Freda said The Running Wife's members are enjoying daily video chats with lessons including weight training, dance and yoga.
