FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (April 1, 2020) – The Kentucky Department of Highways has reopened KY 2 east of Warnock in Greenup County as slip repairs at North Fork hill (near mile marker 9) are substantially complete. On March 3, a section of embankment along KY 2 there slipped farther, and the road had to be closed. The site had already been identified for repairs this year, so state highway engineers fast-tracked that project and secured contractors to excavate the hillside and to place rock and supporting materials to stabilize the roadway.
As of today, Wednesday, April 1, crews have completed excavation, fill work, and preliminary blacktopping, and all barricades have been removed.
Final cleanup remains to be done, but the highway department wanted to reopen the road as quickly as possible as it’s an important route that serves more than 600 residents and commuters in southwest Greenup County, and detours are lengthy.
Motorists should continue to take it slow and watch for workers and occasional flagged traffic over the next few weeks.
