Back in mid January the tri-state area learned Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital will close this September. The hospital has more than 1,000 employees. Many of them nurses. Once the Bellefonte ER closes its doors, some patients will have to be taken further to Ashland to King's Daughters Medical Center, and others to Scioto Memorial Hospital in Portsmouth. All the outreach community Medical facilities related to Bellefonte will also be closing their doors.
To further compound the issue Tuesday February 18th Fairmont Regional Medical Center downsizing by 500 more employees released.
Healthcare in eastern Kentucky is being downsized and the timing couldn’t be worse. In fact it could be setting the stage for a perfect storm . One involving this novel coronavirus,
Consider the 2019-2020 flu season has seen the most pediatric deaths in a decade. Between 26 million and 36 million people have been stricken with the flu as of Feb. 8, according to the latest CDC data. This year's flu season has led to at least 12 million medical visits and 250,000 hospitalizations. In addition, CDC found that the percentage of outpatient visits for influenza-like illness increased to 6.8% in the week ending Feb. 8, up from 6.6% in the week ending Feb. 1. The national baseline for those visits is 2.4%. Pushing hospitals to their limits. Between 14,000 and 36,000 flu-related deaths overall occurred from Oct. 1, 2019, to Feb. 8, CDC estimated.""".............followed with """The situation no one wants to confront.
"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday warned that it expects the novel coronavirus that has sparked outbreaks around the world to begin spreading at a community level in the United States, as a top official said that disruptions to daily life could be “severe.”
And currently it's NOT testing at the community level. Only four US states currently have the capacity to run such tests, due to faulty kits being provided to the other states. To date only 426 people in the US have been tested for virus and many of the 370,000 Chinese college students returned to the US during the first week of January .
Markets have been positioning themselves this week for a shutdown.
Things are now starting to get fast and furious.
Outside of China, covid-19 is swiftly breaching defense lines all over the world. China is destroying their economy , quarantining citizens . Italy, South Korea, Iran and other countries are showing us, a government lockdown happens swiftly, slamming shut your window to act. Not doing so means, making do with whatever you have.
