The Grayson Fire Department is looking for a few plastic eggs for this year’s Easter Egg Hunt – a few thousand eggs, that is.
“We’ve got about half of what we had last year,” said GFD Sargent Andrew Smith, one of the fire fighters who is helping organize the annual event.
In addition to plastic “snap together” eggs, Smith said they need “candy and things that fit in the eggs,” as well as volunteers to fill the eggs and tape them shut. The filled eggs will be dropped from a small airplane piloted by Tony Collier, with the assistance of an Easter-Egg bombardier.
Anyone with eggs, candy or other treats suitable for the egg hunt is encouraged to “Just bring it here to the fire station any time,” Smith said, adding “Last year some people bought it from Amazon and just had it shipped here.”
Smith is also assisting with details for the upcoming “Fire & Smoke Cruise In” to be held at The Hogs Trough in Grayson on June 27, 2020. This will be the third year the car show has been hosted at the local restaurant, Smith said, adding his personal appreciation for the level of support provided by The Hogs Trough.
“We need sponsors. It’s $100 to get on the back of the T-Shirt, and we need gifts and prizes too,” he said. “And then we need cars, trucks, Jeeps and motorcycles too!”
Kids’ “Power Wheels” vehicles will also be judged and awarded trophies this year, Smith said, explaining he expects tremendous excitement for the new category as well as a drag race for the battery-powered transporters.
“They just have to show up on the day of the car show to register,” Smith said.
Funds generated by the car show will go to the Grayson Fire Department’s elaborate, high-tech light show which is on display at Halloween and Christmas.
Anyone who is interested in supporting the effort, or learning more about volunteer opportunities, is encouraged to stop by the fire station on 3rd Street, or send a note to the department’s Facebook page.
