Gearing Up For 37th Year: Project Merry Christmas of Carter County

Hundreds of local children and their families will be blessed with gifts again this year, with help from the people who support and operate Project Merry Christmas of Carter County, Inc.

The recognized (501C-3) charity aims to provide Christmas gifts for hundreds of children in Carter County.

Secretary Bob Caummisar said the effort “provides a good Christmas for over 600 Carter County needy children in 300 families containing 1,000 persons.”

Applications for gifts from Project Merry Christmas of Carter County are accepted at all Carter County Youth Services and Family Resource Centers. Total household size, sources and amounts allows the countywide board of directors to make informed decisions, Caummisar noted.

Applications will be taken during normal school hours on school days between October 28 and November 15. A parent or guardian must provide name, date of birth, gender, clothing sizes of children 12 and under, in addition to Social Security numbers for household members.

Gifts will be distributed at East Carter High School starting at 9 a.m., December 22. Public support of the project is crucial.

“We again ask the public to be as generous as in past years as the need continues to be great,” Board President Debra Berry said.
