Back Behind The Camera: Alys Embraces Challenges

"Morning Glory In Sunflowers" by Alys Preston
Alys Preston has taken only a handful of photos since suffering a stroke on Christmas Day, 2017.
Sunday morning, she picked up a Canon camera and delicately stepped into the perimeter of a sunflower patch in Carter County, Kentucky.

"I have to find ways to do things," she said as she surveyed the field from afar, addressing the need to use the fingers on her right hand to make the camera work.

Watching her work to frame up her shots, get the machine in focus and snap the shutter, her frustrations were evident. The morning sun also seemed to take a quick toll on the fair-skinned redhead, although she walked away with several outstanding images.
