The Carter County Fair Talent Contest got underway as the sun began to set Wednesday, with adults and children competing for bragging rights and cash prizes.
Catherine Smith, 6, and Elizabeth Smith, 9, of Rowayton, Connecticut performed a variety of gymnastics and stretches to earn first and second place in the children’s division.
Alyssa Nevarre claimed first place in the teen division with her vocal rendition of “Please Forgive Me.”
Jonathan Cox of Greenup County took first place for his performance of an original song, “One Day At A Time,” which he wrote a few weeks ago. Armed with an acoustic guitar and his powerful voice, Cox delivered the song based on personal experiences, bringing a hush to the audience.
Second place in the adult category went to Scott and Tiffany Porter, who performed as the duo “Roscoe & Sadie Mae” for the Hee-Haw classic “You Were Gone.”
