Bridge reconstruction complete on KY 182 in Carter County Road has reopened

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Aug. 9, 2019) – Reconstruction of the KY 182 bridge over Sinking Creek in Carter County was completed on Wednesday, Aug. 7. The road has reopened.

The KY 182 bridge, which is on the Grahn side of Dudley Ridge Road about a mile from Rattlesnake Ridge (at milepoint 2.2), had its superstructure rebuilt with new support beams and a new driving surface.

The project was done under a $394,565.25 low-bid Transportation Cabinet contract awarded to The Walker Company of Kentucky, Inc., under the cabinet’s Bridging Kentucky program. The program is a commitment to improve the safety and soundness of the Commonwealth’s bridges by rehabilitating, repairing, or replacing more than 1,000 critical structures in all 120 Kentucky counties over the next six years.

The program will open closed structures, improve bridge lifespans and ensure appropriate weight capacities are met, and improve access and mobility for all Kentuckians.
