TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Paving ramps up next week on AA Highway in Carter County

Between Lewis County line and Grayson

Contractors
will ramp up paving operations next week on the $8.8 million resurfacing and rehab project along 18 miles of the AA Highway (KY 9) in Carter County.

Crews are currently milling, or removing old blacktop, and ditching on the AA
Highway between the Lewis-Carter county line and the KY 1 intersection at Grayson. Traffic is being maintained in
one lane with flagged traffic in
a 1-mile long work zone and with a shoulder closure.

Beginning around Tuesday, July 9, paving operations will start, which will add a second 1-mile work zone
beginning at the Lewis County line. Crews
will also use pilot vehicles to escort traffic through the work zones.

The work zones will progress southward toward Grayson over the next six to eight weeks, with one-lane traffic in each construction area each day from daylight
to dark.

Motorists should expect delays and travel on
rough surfaces at times. Also, the speed limit will be reduced in all work areas, and work zones will be double-fine zones. Please heed all message boards and warning signs, and slow down to protect yourself and workers.

The work is part of a Kentucky Transportation
Cabinet project that includes new blacktop, ditch and shoulder repairs, drainage fixes and other highway improvements, and is being done under a $8,779,498.90 low-bid contract awarded to Mountain Enterprises Inc.
