Tina Kitchen was found near the edge of Carol Malone Boulevard in Grayson Saturday morning with produce grown on her farm in Willard, Ky. as well as her brother, Eddie Martin's garden in Greenup County.
Watermelon, freestone peaches (from Flemingsburg, Ky.), onions, "Ambrosia" corn, and "Mountain Spring" tomatoes, were on the tables, Kitchen said. "And we've got Greasy Beans," she added.
Her daughter, Mariah, responded "Ugly beans is what I call it." Kitchen said the greasy-bean seeds were expensive and tough to source, adding she is unsure how the local market will react. "This is the first we've got off, so we will see how they do."
More traditional half-runner beans will be offered in the days ahead, she said. The Kitchen family's garden goods are available at the roadside stand in the shopping plaza which is home to James Family Outfitters and Veterans Bingo, from 7:30 a.m. until around 2.p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
