KY 773 bridges replacement project

Work continues at the former EK Railway bridges along KY 773 in Hitchins. “Excavation work began early this year, followed by the start of abutment/pier work in spring. Contractors are continuing to build abutments
and piers, which will support each new bridge,” said KYDOT District 9 Allen Blair said this week.”

They will pour concrete for each support structure, then the estimate is they will set beams across the bridges this fall, with surface work
on the bridges beginning shortly thereafter,” he continued, explain much work remains to be done.

The project is currently on schedule for completion by mid-2020, Blair said, adding there will be no traffic changes this year.

“The old bridges will remain open until traffic can be switched to the new bridges – which won’t happen until next year. Motorists should
still take it slow and watch for construction vehicles enter and leaving the road around the construction site,” he said.
